A unique charity triathlon in which solicitors from North and South will swim, cycle and run across three provinces, seven counties and at least four border crossings aims to raise funds for colleagues and their families experiencing difficult times.

The inaugural IronLaw North South Triathlon Challenge will see three solicitors representing the Law Society of Ireland compete against three solicitors representing the Law Society of Northern Ireland on Friday 17 May 2019.

The race will begin with a 3.86 km swim in Ballyshannon, Co. Donegal, passing through counties Leitrim, Fermanagh, Cavan, Meath and Kildare before finishing at the Law Society of Ireland’s headquarters at Blackhall Place, Dublin 7.

Past president Stuart Gilhooly from Dublin will represent the Law Society of Ireland on two wheels. “I will pick up the baton from Ivan Feran from Louth after his swim and pass it on to Brian McMullin from Donegal after cycling 180km. Brian will run a marathon 42km from Maynooth via the Phoenix Park to the finish line at Blackhall Place.”

The South team will be up against Peter Jack, Darren Toombs and Adam Wood from the Law Society of Northern Ireland.

Mr Gilhooly added, “All funds raised will go directly to supporting less fortunate colleagues and their families through the Solicitors Benevolent Association. The sad truth is that solicitors and their families still experience hard times but, as a profession, we have always come together to support them and help see them through.”
