Annual Human Rights Conference 2019

Law Society conference to explore experiences of Direct Provision on Saturday 12 October 2019.

The 17th Annual Human Rights Conference is taking place this Saturday 12 October at the Law Society, Blackhall Place. The theme of this year’s conference is ‘International protection and the experience of direct provision: best practice and future reform’.

Organised by the Law Society Human Rights and Equality Committee in partnership with Law Society Professional Training, the conference aims to bring together legal practitioners, members of the public, policy makers, human rights and civil society organisations to explore the impact of direct provision on asylum seekers.

The conference will also examine:

  • the international protection process in Ireland and identify key human rights challenges in this process,
  • discuss opportunities for change and future reform in international protection in Ireland, and
  • consider how human rights can be promoted and protected.

There will be a number of notable speakers at the event, including the Honorable Mr. Justice Bryan McMahon, Chair of the Working Group on Direct Provision and the Protection Process; H.E. Ambassador David Donoghue, Special Envoy for the UN Security Council Campaign; Grainne O’ Hara, Director of Division of International Protection, UNHCR; Ellie Kisyombe, Founder of Our Table, and others.
