Trinity College Dublin is seeking to appoint a Deputy College Solicitor & Information Compliance Officer. This postholder will provide professional expert legal advice to the Provost, Secretary to the College, College Officers, Executive Officers and Senior Management of all academic, administrative and commercial areas across the University. It will be based in the Secretary’s Office, which is the statutory legal Officer of the College. The legal department within this office is headed up by the College Solicitor. The post will also be responsible for providing expert knowledge and legal advice on governance and regulatory matters to the Trinity Community.

The Deputy College Solicitor will be an authority in the following key legislative areas:

  • Administrative law
  • Contract law
  • Education law with particular focus on the proposed new HEA Act
  • Corporate law and governance
  • Employment and equality law.

This is a demanding and complex role which will require the skill and judgement of an experienced Solicitor. Trinity College Dublin is Ireland’s premier University with a long and impressive history in Academic teaching and research. There are three Faculties, twelve Schools, five Research Institutes, fifty-one Trinity Research Centres, five multi-disciplinary Teaching Units and sixty Service Areas.

Trinity has a combined staff and student population of in excess of 20,000 people so essentially operates as a small town with all the related services and commercial activity you would expect: shops, cafes, restaurants, catering service, accommodation, banking, postal service, gym, sports clubs, recreational clubs, theatre, pavilion bar, the Students Union, Graduation Students Union. Each area has its own specific legal needs which will require expert legal advice.

Post status:

  • Fixed-term contract – 5 year

Hours of post:

  • 35 hours per week

Salary:

  • This appointment will be made on the Senior Administrative 3 Salary Scale (€86,268-€111,402 per annum) at a point in line with current Government pay policy.
