Solicitor Barry Magee has joined the Office of the Legal Cost Adjudicator.

As of 19 October, Barry joins the team of chief legal cost adjudicator Paul Behan, and legal cost adjudicator Niall Hanlon.

Public and private sectors

Barry Magee has worked as a solicitor in the private and public sectors in a wide range of areas, including private client, environmental, conveyancing, probate, judicial review, regulatory and administrative law.

He also served as Chair of the Refugee Appeals Tribunal/International Protection Appeals Tribunal.

The new costs system was set up under part ten of the Legal Services Regulatory Authority Act 2019 and has been in place since October 2019.

Barry Magee studied law at UCD, graduating in 1996.

He trained at Maurice E Veale and Co in Lower Baggot Street, Dublin 2, and qualified in 2000.

In 2002, he moved to the office of Chief State Solicitor. 

Property lawyer

From 2008˗2013, Barry worked at the Railway Procurement Agency as an in-house property lawyer.

He then moved to the position of full-time chair at the Refugee Appeals Tribunal, and in 2017, moved to McDowell Purcell Solicitors, now called Fieldfisher.
