Global law firm Linklaters registered a business with the CRO in Dublin last month with a view to opening an office in the capital.
This would make Linklaters the first of the so-called London ‘magic circle’ top-five firms to open in Ireland.
It is already listed as a firm with the Law Society.
The world’s largest firm, Dentons, opened in Dublin early last year.
Global players DLA Piper, Pinsent Masons, Dechert, Fieldfisher and Tully Rinckey already have a presence in the capital while Allen and Overy has a strong presence in Belfast.
The Law Society clarified late last year than an Irish practising cert entitles a solicitor to practice only in Ireland, and from an establishment in Ireland.
