Dissecting constitutional change in Ireland
The Irish Legal History Society will hold its Spring Discourse on Friday, 26 March, at 5.30pm.
The group has also scheduled its conference for next year, with a call-for-papers deadline of August.
All are welcome to attend this month’s event, though non-members should register in advance.
The topic is ‘Irish Constitutional Change, 1920-22’ and the subject will be addressed by:
- Former Attorney General John Larkin QC, speaking on ‘One Irish Constitution, two Irish Parliaments: The Government of Ireland Act, 1920’,
- Dr Bláthna Ruane SC, speaking on ‘The so-called treaty: the implications of legal form for achieving settlement’,
- Dr Thomas Mohr, speaking on ‘What did Irish people think of the Free State Constitution in 1922?”
Abstracts are also invited for the 25th British Legal History Conference, which is being run jointly with the Irish Legal History Society.
The event will be hosted by Queen’s University Belfast, from Wednesday 6 July – Saturday 9 July, 2022.
Theme
The general theme of the conference will be 'Law and Constitutional Change'.
The deadline for submitting abstracts is 30 August, 2021.
The society welcomes new members, with a special reduced rate for student members.
