Back to the land – solicitor joins rural life campaign

Solicitor and tax advisor Aisling Meehan has lent her support to a campaign to encourage people to live and work in rural Ireland.

This week, she will be taking over the @IrelandsFarmers Twitter account, which is curated by a different Irish farmer each week.

Stock

Aisling combines her legal career with living and working on a farm in Co Clare.

Aisling and her husband Brian rear replacement stock for the family dairy enterprise and farm in the world-renowned Burren.

On social media she suggested that people who are considering leaving city life and moving back to the countryside tune in for her posts on the topic this week.

Aisling Meehan is a Nuffield scholar specialising in agricultural law and tax.

She is a member of the Gazette Editorial Board, and writes about agricultural law for the Irish Farmers’ Journal.

Aisling trained to be a solicitor, tax adviser and farmer all at the same time – between 2005-2008, having graduated from UL with an honours degree in law and accounting in 2004.

Lifestyle

The Western Development Commission (WDC) last month launched a new campaign called ‘More to Life’ which showcases the growing number of career and lifestyle opportunities available in the West of Ireland for young professionals and families.

With more and more people working remotely because of the global pandemic, the WDC believes people can now make a permanent and viable move to the West.

Movers can avail of the many job options open across multiple sectors and enjoy housing costs that are among the lowest in Ireland.

A new website westerndevelopment.ie  will spotlight the resources and supports available to those thinking of working remotely or starting a new a business.

The €72 million Western Investment Fund (WIF) provides loans and equity to business and local communities in the West.
