Former journalist Mark Little is to deliver a lecture on digital misinformation at an event this week organised by the Law Society’s Human Rights and Equality Committee.
The lecture, entitled 'The Complex Relationship Between Digital Misinformation and Fundamental Human Rights', will take place on Wednesday, 18 May (6-7pm).
It will focus on the spread of harmful misinformation and toxic online content, and the challenges this poses to global democracy.
Little (pictured), who founded social-media news agency Storyful in 2010, will explore the question of whether tech platforms and regulators can curb misinformation without suppressing freedom of speech and open debate.
The lecture is being organised by the Human Rights and Equality Committee in partnership with the Law Society Professional Training.
Committee chair Gary Lee (managing solicitor of Ballymun Community Law Centre) will chair the event.
