Trinity law students win podcast prize

A podcast by a group of Trinity College (TCD) law students has won an award for Ireland’s Best Student Podcast at the YAP Ireland Podcast Awards.

The podcast, ‘Legally Fond’, was launched in early March of this year, with the objective of explaining complex legal cases and issues in simple terms to law students and those with an interest in the law.

Topics

"We had seen the increase in popularity of true crime podcasts, but there was little on the market catering to those with an interest in law," said Gavin Dowd, one of the podcast's hosts.

It has covered topics such as adverse possession, compulsory vaccinations, defamation and has interviewed Senator Ivana Bacik on the implications of the COVID-19 legislation.

The three hosts, Pierce O'Meara, Alex MacDonnell and Gavin Dowd, are entering their final year of Law in TCD. The annual YAP Ireland competition is run by DCU's Speakeasy Society and is sponsored by Newstalk and EY.
