FIFA legal counsel on bill at Blackhall sports law forum

The IX Annual International Affairs Talk takes place tomorrow evening at the Green Hall Blackhall Place from 5-7 pm on the hot topic of sports law.

Organised by the EU and International Affairs Committee of the Law Society, this year’s speakers include Helen Kilroy, McCann FitzGerald partner and vice-chair of the Irish Sport Anti-Doping Disciplinary Panel.

Helen will be joined by FIFA legal counsel Barry Lysaght, a solicitor specialising in the regulation of the international football transfer market, to discuss international issues in sports law.

Since joining FIFA in 2012, Barry has led major investigations into breaches of the FIFA regulations, resulting in landmark decisions before the FIFA Disciplinary Committee concerning third-party ownership, third-party influence and the protection of minors.

He holds a Masters in Sports Law with Distinction from De Montfort University in Leicester, where his dissertation on private football academies won the Sky Sports Award for Best Thesis.

International arbitration

Barrister Louise Reilly, a specialist in sports law and international arbitration, is also on the panel.

Louise represents clients in disciplinary and commercial matters before domestic and international tribunals. Louise also sits as arbitrator. She is the Irish alternate member of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, and a member of the Panel of Arbitrators and Mediators of Sport Resolutions, UK.

The forum qualifies for two CPD points.
