Three gongs for Gazette at Irish Magazine Awards

Gazette.ie, the Law Society’s newly-launched daily legal news service, has scooped the ‘Digital Product of the Year’ award at this year’s Irish Magazine Awards (IMAs).

The award was one of three lifted by the Law Society Gazette at last night’s ceremony, hosted by MC Oliver Callan at Lansdowne Football Club in Dublin 4.

The judges congratulated the Gazette on its efforts to keep on innovating in order to match user trends and demands.

“From in-house produced videos to the use of assistive technologies (referring to the new NOA narrated journalism app) they maximise how and when their content can be consumed,” read the citation.

The award for ‘Business Magazine of the Year’ [circulation over 5,000] was also garnered by the Gazette. The judges described the magazine as “vibrant, attractive, innovative and benefitting from an attractive redesign” this year.

Jewel in crown

“While the print edition remains the jewel in the crown, with an increased print run, the brand has been effectively developed across other platforms,” the judges said.

Making it a hat-trick, Gazette journalist Mary Hallissey took the coveted ‘Journalist of the Year’ award – a first for the Gazette.

The judges praised her “clear and lucid writing skills on technical subjects”, describing her contributions as “high quality. She brings a human touch to her articles”.

Attention to detail

Ken Murphy, director general of the Law Society, said: “I extend my warmest congratulations to the super-talented Gazette team for sweeping the top media awards at the IMAs last night.

“We are delighted with the judges’ recognition for our recently launched Gazette.ie, which gives Law Society members immediate, online access to daily legal news, analysis articles, video news and photo galleries.

“Such success does not happen automatically or by accident," Murphy said.

“I see the enormous effort and attention to detail that goes into the Gazette each month.

Testament

“These awards are a fitting testament to the sheer originality and commitment to constant improvement displayed by the Gazette team –and to our equally talented web development team who put so much effort into developing Gazette.ie.”

Director of Representation and Member Services, Teri Kelly, added: “I could not be more proud of this incredible team.

"For Gazette.ie to win so soon after launching is a fitting tribute to all the hard work put in by our Gazette and web development teams – and it doesn't get better than being named ‘Magazine of the Year’.

“Allied with Mary Hallissey’s ‘Journalist of the Year’ prize these awards speak volumes about the quality of the work produced by the Law Society of Ireland on behalf of its members.”
