Relative of Turkish coup leader arrested

Turkey's National Intelligence Organisation (MIT) has arrested a nephew of exiled cleric Fethullah Gulen overseas and brought him back to the country. It is unclear from which country he was abducted, though media reports allege it may have been Kenya.

Selahaddin Gulen was suspected of belonging to the outlawed organisation headed by his uncle, Fethullah Gulen.

Gulen was accused of masterminding a failed military coup in 2016, in which 251 people were killed and more than 2,000 injured.

Flags

Turkish media have published a photograph of Selahaddin Gulen in handcuffs, with Turkish flags on either side.

His wife Serriye, a teacher in Kenya, said in a social-media video that her husband had gone missing in Nairobi in early May.

Both Selahaddin and Fethullah Gulen deny involvement in the attempted uprising.
