Moya Quinlan, ‘beloved icon’ of Law Society, passes away

Law Society past president Moya Quinlan passed away peacefully this morning.

News of her death at the age of 98 has been greeted with great sadness throughout the solicitors' profession.

Remarkably Moya Quinlan was an elected Law Society Council member for some 40 years, right up into her 90s.

She had retired from her role as a chair of the Employment Appeals Tribunal only a few years earlier.

Moya was a beloved icon of the Law Society having served as the first woman president in 1980/81.

Key figure

She was a key figure in the Society’s acquisition of the Blackhall Place premises from the King’s Hospital School in the late 1960s and its subsequent development.

Her son Michael Quinlan was Law Society President last year.

"Moya was truly a remarkable person who will be deeply and sadly missed," said Law Society President Patrick Dorgan.
