Over 4,000 students are participating in the seventh annual Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) in Environmental Law and Climate Change, delivered by the Diploma Centre team this May, June and July.
The MOOC provides a short, yet incisive, overview of legal and ethical considerations for those involved in environmental law and the environmental and conservation spheres.
The participants criss-cross 50 countries, with students from United Arab Emirates, Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Switzerland, France, Great Britain, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, India, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Lebanon, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Nigeria, Netherlands, Pakistan, Portugal and the Turks and Caicos Islands.
Expert speakers
This year’s MOOC boasted an exceptional programme of talks and live Q&A sessions with a host of expert speakers.
Week one looked at climate justice and the climate-change regime, and featured contributions from Prof Mary Robinson (Adjunct Professor of Climate Justice, Trinity College) and Brian Carroll (Assistant Secretary General, Climate Action and Environment, Department of Environment, Climate and Communications), among others.
Talks in subsequent weeks were delivered by:
- Conor Linehan (partner and Head of the Environmental Law Unit, William Fry),
- Pádraic Fogarty (ecologist, environmental scientist, Irish Wildlife Trust), and
- Prof Áine Ryall (Centre for Law and the Environment, UCC).
The final live event on 15 June was a panel discussion featuring Lord Mayor of Dublin Hazel Chu, Rory Corcoran (assistant director, organised and emerging crime, INTERPOL) and Dr Rónán Kennedy, School of Law, NUI Galway.
The MOOC remains open until 30 July so there is still time to register.
