Scholarship of comparative law
The purpose of the conference is to highlight, develop, and promote the scholarship of younger scholars of comparative law.
Submissions for the conference will be accepted on any subject in public or private comparative law.
“Younger” is classified by the organisers as graduate students, law teachers, lecturers, or fellows who have not held a full-time academic position since before 1 July 2009, or for under ten years.
Submissions from full-time faculty members, research fellows and graduate students are equally welcome.
Submission instructions
To submit an entry, scholars should email a Microsoft Word document containing an abstract of between 500 and 750 words to ycc.conference.2019@gmail.com.
The deadline for submissions is 31 January.
Abstracts should reflect original research is not yet published, but which may have been accepted for publication by May 2019.
Interested participants should include the author’s name, title of the paper, institutional affiliation, contact information, and three to five keywords.
In the email, the author should certify that she/he qualifies as a younger scholar. Graduate students should identify themselves as such in the email.
Proposals
Proposals for fully-formed panels for the conference are also encouraged.
Each scholar may make only one submission. Both individual and co-authored submissions will be accepted.
For co-authored submissions, both authors must qualify as younger comparativist scholars.
The conference organisers will assign individual and co-authored submissions to thematic panels according to subject area.
Notification
Authors of the selected submissions will be notified by 15 February.
There is no cost to register for the conference but participants are responsible for their own travel and lodgings.
A limited number of travel stipends, of up to $400, may be awarded to those who indicate financial need.
The Colin B. Picker prize for the best paper submitted by a graduate student will also be awarded by the conference.
The Phanor J. Eder prize will also be awarded for the best paper submitted by a JD, BA, or LL.B or other student who has not yet completed their first law degree as of 1 April this year.
The author(s) of the winning paper will receive a modest stipend towards the cost of attending the conference.
