Arts Council to launch human rights policy

The Arts Council will launch its equality, human rights and diversity policy at a conference on 27-28 March at NUI Galway.

The biennial conference, entitled ‘Places Matter’, will be addressed by Nina Simon (Santa Cruz Museum of Art and History), Abid Hussain (diversity director at the Arts Council England) and Professor William Schabas (chair of the Irish Centre for Human Rights at NUI Galway).

The conference, moderated by Dr Ronit Lentin, takes as its starting point Ireland’s rapid population increase of over 70% in 60 years.

Participation

The goal of the conference is to debate how to create and embrace diverse participation in the arts in Ireland.

Arts Council director Orlaith McBride (pictured above) said it was shaping up to be a fascinating couple of days.

Booking opens tomorrow at www.artscouncil.ie.
