Wait-times halved as solicitors file for e-probate
Thanks to solicitors filing online, people no longer need to wait months to access estates and assets, the Courts Service added.
Courts Service chief information officer Owen Harrison said the online filings have half the errors of the paper-based process.
The Dublin Probate Office has now reduced processing time by half as a result.
“Thanks to all the solicitors who helped us to configure our Courts Portal to meet their needs and streamline the process to reduce errors,” he said.
Probate officer Anne Heenan said:“This is making a real difference for people who no longer need to wait months to access the estate of a deceased loved one.”
Harrison said the Courts Service was encouraged not only by the strong uptake of the online service, but also by the “collegiate and supportive approach” solicitors have taken to urging their colleagues to use the Courts Portal as well.
Intestacy
Harrison confirmed: “By the end of the year we will include applications for intestacy on the Courts Portal."
Solicitors will thus be able to file most probate application types online.
“We will also be introducing web forms on the Courts Portal for making Circuit Court Family Law filings,” he added.
A total of 994 solicitor firms are now registered on Courts Portal with access to online filing for grants of probate, and for Circuit Court family law nationwide.
