Security workers set to receive pay rise

Workers in the security industry are set to receive a pay rise later this month after a new Employment Regulation Order (ERO) comes into effect.

Alan Dillon (Minister of State for Employment, Small Business and Retail) has confirmed that he intends to sign the order, which will amend a 2024 order already in place for the sector.

The ERO will introduce a new minimum rate of pay of €16.15 an hour for workers in the security sector from 28 September onwards. This is up from the current rate of €15.41 an hour.

'Vital role'

The national minimum wage rate is currently €14.15 an hour.

"Security personnel play a vital role in protecting people, property and businesses across the country, while also supporting the effective operation of many key sectors, including retail, entertainment, transport, and financial services," the minister said.

He added that the sector had continued to grow and evolve in recent years, with increasing levels of professionalism and responsibility.
