Interactive Law Club at Trinity Comprehensive
DCU FLAC, the Law Society, and Ballymun Community Law Centre have collaborated to prepare law students to deliver an interactive Law Club programme at Trinity Comprehensive School.
Over the past three weeks, the Law Society of Ireland’s Public Legal Education team has facilitated a series of training workshops for a group of students from DCU FLAC society, preparing them to lead an exciting Law Club programme in collaboration with Ballymun Community Law Centre and Trinity Comprehensive School.
Mock trial curriculum
The training led by PPC course manager John Lunney has focused on equipping the students with the skills and confidence to design and deliver a mock trial curriculum using the interactive, learner-centred methodology of Street Law.
Through practical workshops, the DCU students have explored how to make the law accessible , engaging, and relevant to young people, using participatory activities that encourage critical thinking by the learners.
The Law Club programme is organised by Claire McSweeney and Louise Meade in BCLC and DCU faculty members Aisling de Paor and Ronan Condon.
The programme aims to provide transition year students at Trinity Comprehensive with an opportunity to explore the law through a hands-on mock trial experience, developing their understanding of the legal system while building valuable skills in teamwork, problem-solving, and advocacy.
This collaborative initiative highlights the potential of Public Legal Education to connect law students with their local communities, empowering young people to engage with the law while providing future legal professionals with valuable opportunities to develop their own communication skills.
