Helen Dixon to speak at ICEL data conference

More details of the Irish Centre for European Law (ICEL) 2026 conference on privacy and data protection have been announced. 

The event will be held on Friday 15 May (2-5pm) in Chartered Accountants House, 47-49 Pearse Street, Dublin 2. It will also be streamed live online. 

One panel will discuss 'Ten years of GDPR: Reflections, insights and lessons', while a second discussion will take place on ‘Relevant and recent GDPR developments’.

The speakers are: 

  • Helen Dixon (global digital regulatory consultant and former Data Protection Commissioner), 
  • Prof Herke Kranenborg (professor in European Data Protection and Privacy Law at Maastricht University), 
  • Paul McDonagh-Forde (Brussels-based attaché of the Data Protection Commission), 
  • Catherine Donnelly SC (barrister), 
  • Davinia Brennan (technology and innovation partner, Matheson LLP), and 
  • David Fennelly SC (barrister).

Sanctions webinar 

Meanwhile, the members’ committee of the ICEL has rescheduled the second in a series of online webinars on EU sanctions. 

‘Legal instruments in the EU economic security toolkit and EU sanctions: an envoy’s perspective’ will now take place on Tuesday 26 May (8.30-9.30am). 

The speakers are: 

  • David O’Sullivan (EU sanctions envoy), 
  • Daniel Ferrie (head of sector, DG Trade), and 
  • Dr Vincent Power SC (A&L Goodbody). 

One CPD point is available from attendance, and tickets can be bought on the ICEL website

The first webinar took place last month.
