Update for solicitors on probate and tax

Law Society Professional Training is to host an update on probate and tax for solicitors later this week.

The live Zoom webinar will take place on Thursday 12 March (2-5pm) and yields three general CPD hours by e-learning.

The seminar aims to provide general practitioners with an overview of recent and ongoing developments in probate, administration, and taxation practice from a practical perspective. 

It has been  designed in collaboration with STEP and the Law Society’s Probate, Administration of Estates and Trusts Committee.

Case law

Topics and issues to be covered include:

  • E-probate update,
  • Probate and administration of estates involving non-residents: a practical overview of tax considerations,
  • CRBOT (Central Register of Beneficial Ownership of Trusts): the obligations on trustees, presenters, and designated persons, and
  • Succession and probate case-law update.

Aileen Keegan (principal, Keogan Law & Tax) will chair the seminar. She is a solicitor, chartered tax adviser (CTA), TEP (trust and estate practitioner), and a council member of the Irish Tax Institute.

She is chair of both STEP Ireland and the Law Society’s probate committee in 2026.

The speakers are:

  • Jim Dalton (Courts Service),
  • Mick O’Connor (principal officer and registrar of CRBOT, Revenue),
  • Robert Jordan (trust register, Revenue),
  • Jane O’Quigley (senior associate, O’Connell Brennan LLP), and
  • Laurence Masterson BL.
