Murgitroyd names new head of patents practice

Intellectual-property (IP) firm Murgitroyd has appointed Barry Moore as managing director of its pan-European patents practice.

Moore has led the firm’s Irish team for the past five years, having joined Murgitroyd in 2021 after its acquisition of Hanna Moore & Curley, the patents practice he co-founded.

He is a chartered physicist, European patent attorney, chartered patent attorney, and Irish patent and trade mark attorney.

The firm said that his appointment came at “a pivotal moment” for Murgitroyd’s 150-strong pan-European patents team, as the firm accelerates investment in talent, technology, and client experience.

‘Technical depth’

Chief executive Gordon Stark said that Moore brought “a proven combination of technical depth, commercial understanding, and leadership experience” to the role.

“His appointment reflects our commitment to investing in our patents practice and ensuring our clients benefit from a team that is not only highly skilled, but deeply connected to their needs,” he added.

Moore said that, while the profession was navigating rapid technological and regulatory change, clients still needed trusted advisors who understood their business, anticipated their challenges, and stood alongside them.

“Human relationships will always remain at the heart of how we deliver expertise," he added.
