Central Statistics Office (CSO) recorded crime statistics for 2025, show a general decline in most major offence categories.
The data highlights a 25% decrease in homicide and related offences and a 9% reduction in reported sexual offences.
Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan welcomed the figures, stating: "Higher Garda visibility in our cities and communities is having a significant impact on the reduction of crime and ensuring the public feel safe.
“I want the public to know that the government policy of proactive high-visibility policing will continue across the country."
Property-related crime also saw a downturn. Burglary and related offences fell by 13%, while robbery offences decreased by 11%.
Residential burglaries during the winter months have fallen by 75% since 2015.
"The ongoing reduction in property crime reflects the unprecedented success that An Garda Síochána have had in reducing and preventing burglaries," the Minister added.
Weapons
The 2025 figures recorded a small increase in weapons offences.
The CSO report indicated a marginal decrease in fraud incidents, though this excludes data reported by financial institutions.
The Minister urged the public to remain "extremely cautious and vigilant" when conducting business online.
