Forty TY pupils are Solicitors of the Future
Forty Transition Year students nationwide are Solicitors of the Future after completing a week‑long legal education programme held at the Law Society in Dublin.
The popular initiative introduces second‑level students to the legal system and is designed for anyone interested in exploring a career in law.
The Solicitors of the Future programme took place at the Law Society in Dublin from 17-20 February.
Delivered by leading legal experts, the immersive, activity‑based programme featured practitioner‑led workshops, guest speakers, courtroom exercises, and a dedicated careers seminar. In total, students from ten counties participated.
Places on this year’s programme were allocated by lottery, with 20% reserved for students attending DEIS schools.
Law Society President, Rosemarie Loftus, said: “This initiative encourages students to consider a career in law while providing a real insight into the work of practising solicitors.
Holistic
“It is carefully designed to offer a holistic understanding of what a legal career involves, and the many different paths it can take.
“From hearing insights from human rights practitioners to newly qualified solicitors, and visits to the criminal courts, students now have a real sense of what it’s like to work in the legal world, and the rewarding career path of a solicitor.
“The programme also highlighted the practical supports available to aspiring solicitors, including financial grants via the Law Society’s Access Scholarship. It doesn’t matter where you come from or what your background is - a career in law is open to everyone.
“By taking part in the Law Society’s Solicitors of the Future programme, students learn how the law affects everyday life, building awareness of justice, legal processes, constitutional principles, and the rule of law. This is useful for everyone, not just future lawyers.”
