Young solicitor switches to scaffolding career

The Sun has reported on a young lawyer in Britain who has quit the legal profession for a job in construction.

Mollie Pollard, 33, told the newspaper she struggled to live on her pay after seven years in the legal industry.

The Staffordshire native says she “hasn’t looked back” since becoming a scaffolder, alongside her husband Tim, with Attridge Scaffolding in Uttoxeter, near the Derbyshire county border.

Jump in pay

With £45,000 in student debt to pay off, the former lawyer said that she had had a significant jump in pay since changing career.

“I was earning £42,000 a year at the end but for years it was £32,000. In my new job I’ve had a 75% increase on what I was earning.

“I struggled to live on that wage. If I wasn’t with Tom, I couldn’t have moved out from my parents’ house,” she told The Sun.

She added: “I’m so much happier now. I haven’t looked back. I’ve got more flexibility and free time too.

“I was putting blood, sweat and tears into [my job as a solicitor] and getting nothing,” she told the newspaper.
