Details of Bloomsbury company-law seminar

Bloomsbury Professional Ireland has announced details of its 2026 company-law seminar, which will be held in Dublin in April. 

The conference, chaired by former chair of the Company Law Review Group Dr Thomas Courtney, will focus on new developments in corporate borrowing and security. 

It will take place at Chartered Accountants Ireland, Pearse St, Dublin 2, on Wednesday 15 April (8.30am to 12.30pm). 

Delegates will earn four CPD points. 

Receivers’ powers among topics 

The speakers are: 

  • William Johnston (former chair of the banking-law division of the International Bar Association, partner at Arthur Cox LLP, and examiner in banking law at the Law Society),
  • Hugh McDowell BL (practising barrister with a focus on company-law disputes, media and defamation, and regulatory matters),
  • Kelley Smith SC (specialist in commercial litigation and chair of the Corporate and Insolvency Bar Association), and
  • Elizabeth White (practice-development consultant in A&L Goodbody’s finance department). 

Topics include: 

  • Security over assets: Ensuring it works effectively – William Johnston,
  • Validating financial assistance and security with the SAP: Law and good practice – Elizabeth White,
  • Registration of charges: Recent developments and best practice – Hugh McDowell BL, and
  • The appointment of receivers to companies and the exercise of their powers – Kelley Smith SC.
