ICEL webinars to examine EU sanctions

The Irish Centre for European Law (ICEL) is holding two online webinars on EU sanctions in the coming weeks, as well as a conference on privacy and data protection.

The two online breakfast seminars on sanctions are:

  • Legal perspectives from Dublin and Brussels (29 April, 8.30am), and
  • Legal instruments in the EU economic security toolkit (12 May, 8.30am).

The two events are part of the ICEL Members’ Committee Trade and Security Webinar Series.

Legal issues for practitioners

The first webinar will feature Alina Nedea (deputy head of the cabinet of commissioner Teresa Ribera and formerly head of sanctions unit at DG FISMA) and Kate Harnett (partner, A&L Goodbody).

This event will focus on the development, implementation, and enforcement of EU sanctions, and the related legal issues arising for Irish practitioners.

Philip Crowe (legal division, Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade) will chair the webinar.

The 12 May event, chaired by Bernadette Quigley SC, will feature Daniel Ferrie (head of sector, DG Trade) and Dr Vincent Power SC (A&L Goodbody).

International speakers

The 2026 ICEL Privacy and Data Protection Conference will be held on Friday 15 May (2-5pm) in Chartered Accountants House, 47-49 Pearse Street, Dublin 2.

The theme will be 'Ten years of GDPR: Reflections, insights and lessons'.

The conference will also be streamed online. Attendance will yield 2.5 CPD hours.

Former Data Protection Commissioner Helen Dixon, who is now a consultant with law firm MHC, will deliver the keynote address at the conference, which will also feature leading Irish and international speakers:

  • Prof Herke Kranenborg (professor in European data-protection and privacy law at Maastricht University), and
  • Dr David Fennelly SC.
