Webinar on attracting and keeping legal talent

Law Society Skillnet will hold a lunchtime seminar on attracting and retaining legal talent later this week.

The online Zoom webinar will take place on Thursday 18 September (12 noon to 1.30pm).

It is worth 1.5 CPD hours for professional development and solicitor wellbeing (by e-learning).

The webinar is aimed at providing practitioners with guidance on how to attract and retain trainees and qualified legal practitioners.

Alternative approaches

Speakers will explain the flexible nature of training contracts, and the hybrid Professional Practice Course, how a trainee can work and learn, and how firms can offer alternative approaches to training.

In addition, attendees will be advised on how to attract and interview potential employees and how, subsequently, to retain them.

Law Society Skillnet says that the webinar is suitable for all practitioners seeking to recruit legal staff at the trainee and qualified level and is particularly relevant to small- to medium-sized firms.

Succession planning

The event will also assist firms seeking to expand or seeking to plan for succession.

The presenters are:

  • Ian Ryan (solicitor and trainee executive, Law Society),
  • Rory O’Boyle (solicitor and head of the Professional Practice Course, Law Society), and
  • Michelle Cross (newly qualified solicitor, JW O’Donovan LLP, and member of the SLA Traineeship Committee).

More speakers are to be confirmed.
