Sharp increases in cost of dairy and meat

Data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO) shows no overall change in producer-price inflation last month.

Domestic producer prices rose by 1.2% year-on-year, while export prices fell by 3.4%, leading to a 3% annual drop in overall manufacturing producer prices, the figures show.

Food-product prices rose 4.4% over the year, with sharp increases in dairy (+11.1%) and meat (+7.3%), but a 16.2% drop in vegetable and animal oils and fats.

Electricity prices fell 3.3% in the month and are down 4% annually – 75.1% below their August 2022 peak.

Construction-material prices were flat in August but up 0.6% year-on-year. The broader building and construction Index rose 1.5% in the month and 1.8% annually.
