LPDT seeks practitioners for advisory panel

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Tribunal (LPDT) is seeking expressions of interest from applicants for appointment to a panel of legal assessors.

The tribunal, which was set up under the Legal Services Regulation Act 2015, considers complaints of misconduct against solicitors and barristers.

It has up to 33 members, with the majority being non-legal members, along with solicitor and barrister members

The panel members being sought will provide legal-advisory services to the tribunal and will be appointed for initial terms of one year. The term can be extended at the discretion of the tribunal.

Ten years’ experience

The LPDT expects to appoint between eight and 12 panel members, who will:

  • Advise and assist the LPDT on legal matters that may arise during hearings,
  • Advise and assist the LPDT during deliberations,
  • Disclose any advice given to the LPDT members to the parties to an inquiry, and
  • Assist the LPDT with the preparation of any determinations and any associated documents, if requested to do so.

Applicants must have:

  • Ten years of post-qualification experience as a solicitor or barrister,
  • Experience acting in the role of legal assessor in a professional regulatory context,
  • At a minimum, the level of professional-indemnity insurance prescribed or required by law or by the professional regulations or code applying to the applicant, and
  • Proof of tax-clearance status from Revenue.

Applications should be submitted to general-lpdt@lpdt.ie by close of business on 3 October.
