The Law Society’s Diploma Centre last week launched this year’s Diploma in Law, which has now entered its second decade.
The centre says that the long-standing, flagship course has enabled hundreds of students – many with no prior legal background – to gain a comprehensive understanding of the main areas of law.
The course offers exceptional flexibility, with options to study full-time over one year or part-time across two years.
Its innovative blended learning approach ensures accessibility for students balancing professional commitments or living outside Dublin.
The launch day (5 September) was held at Blackhall Place, where students had the opportunity to attend in person and experience the vibrant atmosphere of the Law Society, as they joined Professional Practice Course participants who were also beginning their legal training.
The Diploma Centre says that the Diploma in Law course continues to attract a diverse cohort – those seeking to deepen their legal knowledge, enhance their current roles, or take the first step towards a legal career.
The opening day included a new legal-careers workshop run by course leader Jonathan Patel.
The workshop offered practical guidance on CV development, application strategies, and commercial awareness.
Mariana Preda, who worked in a solicitor’s firm for six years before taking the course, described her two years as “a rich experience that added value to my role and helped me gain expertise”.
“I acquired considerable knowledge and understanding of Irish legislation, and I find it very useful on a day-to-day basis when dealing with our clients,” she added.
