Date set for 2025 criminal-law update

A seminar to update practitioners on the latest developments in criminal-law practice takes place next week in the Law Society. 

Criminal Law Update 2025 is organised by Law Society Professional Training in collaboration with the Criminal Law Committee. 

The event will take place in the Green Hall, Blackhall Place, on Friday 26 September (2.30pm to 5.30pm). 

Three general CPD hours by group study are available for attendees.

Topical issues 

The aim of the seminar is to provide practitioners with an overview of recent and continuing developments in criminal law from a practical perspective.  

Topical issues to be covered include: 

  • Road-traffic offences,
  • Garda code of conduct,
  • Body cameras and the digital evidence-management system,
  • Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA) investigations: responding to frivolous and vexatious claims, and
  • The implications of the recent DPP v AM judgment. 

Chair of the Criminal Law Committee Fergus Mullan will chair the seminar. 

The speakers are: 

  • Tim Willoughby (head of innovation and digital services, An Garda Síochána),
  • Tony Watson (head of complaints and resolutions, LSRA),
  • David Staunton BL,
  • Roisin Lacey SC,
  • Dr Shane McCarthy (vice-chair, Criminal Law Committee and consultant solicitor, Fitzgerald Legal & Advisory LLP).
