Anyone who is interested in standing for the Law Society Council election is urged to get their nomination in soon, as the deadline is fast approaching.
Any current Law Society member can be nominated by two other members and can also run for election to contribute to the future of the solicitors' profession.
Nominations and voting are conducted online.
The Council is responsible for ‘the sole and entire management of the Law Society’ and members are entitled to run, as well as elect that body.
The Council will benefit from a fresh influx of talent each year, reflecting a growing and increasingly diverse profession.
Current Council members have encouraged other solicitors to consider running for election.
A total of 31 members of Council are elected by national elections, and four members by provincial elections.
They serve for a two-year term, and may be re-elected indefinitely.
Council also appoints up to 13 further extraordinary members annually, based on nominations from the Dublin Solicitors’ Bar Association, the Southern Bar Association, and the Law Society of Northern Ireland.
Any solicitor who feels that their segment of the profession needs more representation at Council is strongly encouraged to seek a nomination.
Not all Council meetings are held onsite, with a hybrid format in use.
Nominations for the Law Society of Ireland Council for the 2025 election are open until 5pm on Tuesday 9 September.
