Appointment boosts Philip Lee’s tax practice

The former managing partner of Eversheds Sutherland Ireland has joined Philip Lee LLP as a senior partner in its tax practice.

The commercial-law firm said that Alan Connell, who was formerly head of tax at Eversheds Sutherland Ireland, would work with Michael McGivern (head of tax) as part of a continued expansion of its tax business.

McGivern described Connell’s appointment as “a major step forward” in the development of Philip Lee’s tax practice.

“As a recognised leader in corporate-tax law, his international reputation and depth of experience significantly enhance our capabilities,” he stated.

Inward-investment projects

Connell has advised on some of the largest inward-investment and restructuring projects in Ireland.

He mainly advises international financial institutions and corporations doing business in and from Ireland and is standing tax counsel to numerous internationally focused organisations in respect of their Irish operations.

In addition to being a member of the Law Society of Ireland, the Law Society of Northern Ireland, and the Law Society of England and Wales, Connell is an active member of several international tax bodies – including the International Bar Association, the International Fiscal Association, and the American Chamber of Commerce.

He described his appointment as “an exciting opportunity to help shape a dynamic and internationally focused tax practice”.
