Inbound tourism saw 4% drop last month
A total of 528,100 foreign visitors travelled to Ireland in April 2025, down from 550,000 in April 2024. However, visitor numbers showed a 14% increase compared with April 2023, when 463,000 visitors arrived.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) data for inbound tourism to Ireland for April 2025 showed a 4% decrease in the number of foreign visitors compared with the same month in 2024.
Figures in the first three months of the year had shown much larger annual drops, with a 15% fall recorded in March.
Expenditure total of €375 million
Foreign visitors spent a total of €375 million in Ireland during April, excluding fares, representing a 10% decline from April 2024 but a 1% increase from April 2023.
The largest contingent of visitors came from Britain, accounting for 41% of the total.
The number of visitors from Britain rose by 2% compared with April 2024 and by 13% compared with April 2023.
Visitors from the United States made up 18% of the total, with a 1% decrease from April 2024 but an 8% increase compared with April 2023.
The most common reason for visiting Ireland was for a holiday or leisure (40%), followed by visiting friends or relatives (38%).
Visitors spent a total of 3.4 million nights in Ireland during the month – a 1% decrease from April 2024 and a 6% decline from April 2023.
The average length of stay for foreign residents was 6.5 nights – a slight increase from 6.4 nights in April 2024 but a decrease from 7.9 nights in April 2023.
Accommodation data revealed that 42% of visitors stayed with family or in their own property, more than in any other accommodation type.
