Law Society President Eamon Harrington, together with Law Society Director General Mark Garrett, met Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan at Government Buildings this week (26 March).
The meeting covered discussed shared priorities in the justice sphere.
Director General Mark Garrett said: “We were delighted to meet the minister to discuss his priorities and how solicitors can play their part in improving access to justice, modernising the courts, developing alternative despite resolution, advancing the Family Courts Act, widening access to the profession, and the provision of legal services in every community in Ireland.
“There is a significant justice and law reform agenda for the years ahead and the Law Society will be very involved in all aspects of that agenda,” he added.
As part of its strategy, the Law Society is committed to participating in discussion and advocacy on the administration of justice and the effective implementation of public policy that will serve the needs of Irish society today and into the future.
Law Society Policy Director Brian Hunt commented: “The Programme for Government contains many important commitments that have the potential to bring real improvements to the administration of justice and the experience of court users, and in particular the victims of crime.”
