Solicitor SC to join financial ombudsman board

Helen Kelly SC, a former senior partner at Matheson, is to join the Financial Services and Pensions Ombudsman (FSPO) Council.

The solicitor was one of two new council members appointed yesterday (4 June) by Minister for Finance, Paschal Donohoe after a public call for applications.

The other new board member is James Doorly, the current deputy chair of the Press Council of Ireland.

Ann Duffy, a member of the council since 2021, has been named as the new chair of the body.

Competition group

Kelly has more than 30 years’ experience in EU and Irish competition law and led Matheson’s EU competition and regulatory group for 21 years.

She is currently a member of the board of An Post and of the Complaints Committee of the Legal Services Regulatory Authority (LSRA).
