Law Society Professional Training is to hold a lunchtime webinar on the Planning and Development Act 2024 next week.

The event is part of the ‘Bitesize Briefing’ series of Zoom webinars focusing on recent developments in law and practice.

It will take place on Wednesday 18 June (1pm-2pm) and is worth one general CPD hour.

The webinar is aimed at solicitors and others in a law firm who deal with planning matters, especially in the context of conveyancing files.

Aspects of the 2024 act that will be covered include:

  • The concept of ‘development’ – definition, material change of use, section 10 declarations, licensing of appliances and cables on public roads,
  • What constitutes ‘exempted development’,
  • Plans and policies – including National Planning Statements, regional strategies, and development plans,
  • Development consents,
  • Alteration, extension, and revocation of permission,
  • Miscellaneous powers of planning authorities,
  • Appeals,

  • Financial and miscellaneous provisions.

Alice Whittaker (partner, Philip Lee LLP) will chair the webinar. Her main focus is the provision of strategic advice to clients operating in the environmental, energy, infrastructure, housing, climate action, and marine sectors.

The speaker will be Mark Thuillier (senior associate, A&L Goodbody), who has extensive experience in providing environmental and planning-law advice for large-scale infrastructure projects, with a particular emphasis on housing and renewable energy.
