ALG handled 325 pro bono issues in 2024
A report from law firm A&L Goodbody (ALG) shows that it undertook 325 pro bono matters last year.
The report says that 375 of the firm’s legal professionals provided more than 14,000 hours of free legal advice.
According to ALG, this equates to an average of 33 hours for each lawyer in the firm in 2024 – exceeding its commitment to 25 hours per lawyer under the Pro Bono Pledge Ireland.
Case studies
The Pro Bono Impact Report 2024 includes client testimony and case studies.
ALG lawyers worked on issues that included support for people fleeing war and persecution, reuniting families seeking asylum, advocating for those needing housing support, and providing legal advice to civil society and social enterprise.
Eithne Lynch (head of pro bono, ALG) described such work as “a core part of our firm’s culture”.
“This report highlights how accessible, timely, and professional legal services can make a real impact on those who need it most,” she added.
The case studies include support for a young man from Uganda seeking refugee status in Ireland due to fears about the persecution of LGBTQ+ people in Uganda, and support for a woman who fled Iran after being detained and interrogated by security forces due to her political activism.
