Eurostat data on third-country nationals returned after an order to leave show that France has the highest number of such returns of the EU 27.
Eurostat has collated figures by type of return, citizenship, country of destination, age and sex, in a quarterly data series.
In Q1 2025, France returned 3,695 individuals, followed by Germany which sent back 3,625.
Cyprus returned 3,470 individuals, while Poland sent home 3,135.
Austria returned 1,650, while Spain returned 1,470 in Q1 this year.
Ireland lies at 17 on the list of 27 countries, with 465 returns in Q1 this year.
The statistics for third-country nationals refused entry at EU external borders shows a total of 123,655 refusals in 2024 – down from 137,840 in 2020.
Poland refused entry to 20,675 last year, while France stopped 10,235.
