The online-safety watchdog has given social-media platform X until today (25 July) to comply with a key part of its Online Safety Code.
Under Part B of the code, video-sharing platforms that allow pornography must use effective age assurance to ensure that children are not normally able to access it.
“Based on an initial review of the X platform, we cannot see evidence of measures taken to comply with this age-assurance requirement,” Coimisiún na Meán (CnaM) said in a statement.
“We have further concerns about X’s compliance with other parts of the code, – including, but not limited to, the availability of parental controls,” it added.
The regulator said that it had sought an explanation from X about the measures taken to comply with the code and would take further action where there was evidence of non-compliance.
CnaM pointed out that platforms had been given nine months to comply with Part B of the code, adding that non-compliance could lead to sanctions – including significant financial penalties.
