Law Society DG joins board of CLM

Community Law & Mediation (CLM) has appointed the Director General of the Law Society Mark Garrett to its board of directors.

Garrett has been the director general of the Law Society since January 2022.

He had previously worked as chief of staff to then-tánaiste and foreign-affairs minister Eamon Gilmore, and for the Competition Authority.

CLM, which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year, was established in 1975 as Ireland’s first independent community law centre.

‘Invaluable’ experience

It has evolved from a neighbourhood law centre into a national service with locations in Coolock and Limerick.

CLM offers services in mediation, environmental justice, and children’s law.

Each year, it assists with more than 4,700 legal and mediation matters and provides ‘know your rights’ talks and legal training to more than 1,450 people.

Welcoming Mark Garrett’s appointment, Rose Wall (CLM chief executive) said: “His extensive knowledge and experience will be invaluable to our organisation as we continue to deliver essential legal and mediation services to those who need it most, and offer new services to meet changing needs in the community.”
