The number of homes granted planning permission in the third quarter (Q3) of this year was the highest in almost two years, according to official figures.
The Central Statistics Office (CSO) said that permissions were granted for 11,142 homes during the quarter – up more than 29% from the 8,611 recorded a year earlier.
The figure was the highest since the final quarter of 2023, and comes after falls recorded in the first two quarters of this year.
Houses accounted for 55% of all homes granted planning permission in Q3, while apartments made up the remaining 45%.
The number of apartments given the go-ahead rose by 51.2% compared with Q3 2024, while house approvals increased by 15.7%.
The number of multi-development houses backed was up by 14% annually to 4,676 units.
The number of one-off houses approved rose by 21.6% to 1,450.
A breakdown showed that the number of homes approved in Dublin’s four local-authority areas jumped by almost 48% compared with the same period last year, with apartment numbers more than doubling to 2,782 units.
Only 350 houses were approved in Dublin – a drop of 57.5% compared with Q3 last year.
