Solicitor and regulation expert Martin Sisk is to chair the Marine Institute, the State body responsible for marine research, technology development, and innovation.
The Government has appointed him to serve a five-year term at the agency.
Welcoming the appointment, Martin Heydon (Minister for Agriculture, Food and the Marine) said that Sisk brought “a strong legal background” and extensive experience across a number of Government committees to the role.
The institute provides scientific and technical advice to Government to help inform policy and to support the sustainable development of Ireland’s marine resource.
The Marine Institute was established under the Marine Institute Act 1991.
Sisk is also a board member of the National Treatment Purchase Fund, which works with public hospitals to fund treatment for patients on waiting lists.
He previously held senior roles in the Central Bank and has also served as chair of VHI Healthcare, and as a board member of the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
