The European Commission has opened a public consultation on three pieces of legislation that cover airport services.
The EU body says that it wants to assess whether the rules on airport charges, slot distribution, and ground-handling services at EU airports remain effective amid changing market conditions and environmental considerations.
The rules covered by the consultation are the Slot Regulation, the Groundhandling Directive, and the Airport Charges Directive.
“These rules determine, for example, how much airlines pay to use certain airport facilities, which, in turn, has an impact on the price passengers pay,” the EU body says.
The consultation looks at recent trends, such as market consolidation, airport capacity challenges, labour shortages, increased competition from non-EU airlines and airports, and the need for decarbonisation.
The commission says that the feedback it receives will also help it to identify opportunities for simplification and reducing administrative burdens.
The consultation is open until 28 October.
