Aircraft-leasing sector continues growth path

Official figures show the significant growth experienced by the aircraft-leasing industry in Ireland in recent years.

The Central Statistics Office (CSO) said that the industry employed just over 3,000 people last year – up 7% compared with 2019.

Those working in the industry earned €620 million last year – an increase of almost 20% compared with 2019.

The income of aircraft leasing companies grew 54% between 2014 and 2024, ending the period at €21.9 billion.

Asia is leading market

The CSO figures show that Asia was the most important source of leasing income for the industry over the past decade, accounting for 41%, with Europe next at 36%.

Profits last year were €2.1 billion, the figures show. This was up from €1.8 billion in 2023, but lower than the €2.6 billion recorded in 2022, when the figure bounced back from a COVID slump.

Total assets stood at €268 billion by the end of 2024, having jumped by more than 50% since 2014.
