Sinn Féin has named its TD for Cavan-Monaghan, Matt Carthy, as chair of the Oireachtas Committee on Justice, Home Affairs and Migration.
The post was one of seven secured by the party.
“This committee has a lot of urgent and important work to do, and I look forward to getting that work started,” Deputy Carthy said today (25 April), calling for the speedy establishment of the committee by the Government.
He added that there were policies that he would like to see on the agenda as early as possible – including an examination of the new garda divisional model and the recruitment and retention crisis in the force.
The Sinn Féin TD also called for discussion of what he described as “profiteering” in the granting of IPAS (International Protection Accommodation Service) contracts, and “wider dysfunctions” within the migration system.
