Mícheál O’Keeffe named as Central Bank director

The Central Bank has appointed former European Central Bank economist Mícheál O’Keeffe as its director of policy and international.

O’Keeffe currently works as senior advisor to Minister for Finance Paschal Donohoe in his role as President of the Eurogroup.

The Central Bank says that he will be a member of the institution’s senior leadership team and will be responsible for leading the development of financial regulation domestically and internationally.

International experience

The new director has also previously held advisory roles at the Central Bank – including working as chief of staff and counsellor to the Central Bank Governor.

“Along with his background in economics, supervision and policy, and his prior leadership role in the Central Bank as chief of staff, Mícheál brings with him a wealth of international experience, most notably in Brussels and Frankfurt,” said Governor Gabrial Makhlouf.

The appointment will take effect on 23 June.
