New Diploma Centre course for legal secretaries

The Diploma Centre is to offer a new course this autumn, designed to give students a greater understanding of the knowledge and skills required for working in a legal firm.

The Certificate in Legal Skills for Legal Secretaries starts on 5 November.

Lecturers will emphasise the practical aspects of working in a legal office, highlight the key documents that legal secretaries deal with on a day-to-day basis, and set out the steps involved in litigation cases, probate, conveyancing, and other transactions.

The Diploma Centre says that the certificate will provide significant value for legal secretaries, as well as their employers.

Credits

Completion of this course will also give applicants credits towards a new Legal Executive qualification that will be offered by the Law Society in 2025.

Claire O’Mahony (head of the Law Society Diploma Centre) said that the centre strived to provide new study programmes and pathways to education that were accessible to legal professionals of all levels.

The course is ideally suited to legal secretaries seeking to expand their legal skills and obtain a legal qualification.

It will also be of interest to:

  • Office managers,
  • Personal assistants,
  • Office administrators, and
  • Secretaries working in a non-legal setting who wish to gain the practical skills and knowledge required to work in a legal office.

For further information about the course, contact Riona Leahy, course leader, by emailing r.leahy@lawsociety.ie or go to www.lawsociety.ie/diplomacentre.
