Recruitment starts for new policing body

Suitably qualified candidates for appointment to An tÚdarás Póilíneachta agus Sábháilteachta Pobail – the new Policing and Community Safety Authority – have been invited to express their interest.

The new authority will merge the broad-ranging oversight functions of the existing Policing Authority and the inspection functions of the Garda Síochána Inspectorate, superseding both bodies.

It is being set up under the new Policing, Security and Community Safety Act 2024.

‘Oversee and assess’

Under the State Boards process, the authority is seeking to appoint a chair and eight ordinary members.

The body’s aim will be to oversee and assess, in an independent and transparent manner, the performance by An Garda Sìochàna of its function relating to policing services, in order to support the effective provision and continuous improvement of such services to the benefit of the safety of the public.

The closing date for applications is Friday 29 March (3pm).
